Great job trying to have more vegetables! They’re low in calories, high in nutrients, and good for weight control and health.
Here are a few tips if you think you don’t like vegetables. You may find that you like them more than you thought!
- Try a variety of vegetables. Even if you don’t like certain vegetables, you may like others. Keep trying until you find a few that you like.
- Try different cooking methods. Some people like mushier vegetables; others prefer drier or crisper vegetables. Steaming, roasting or baking, grilling, air frying, and stir frying all yield different results even with the same vegetables.
- Consider raw vegetables. You may find that you enjoy the crunch and sweetness of carrots, sugar snap peas, and red bell peppers even if you don’t love cooked vegetables.
- Let go of your old conceptions about vegetables. Some people, for example, grew up on mushy vegetables, canned and salted or sweetened vegetables, or vegetables prepared by their parents who weren’t great chefs. If your dislike of vegetables started a while ago, give them another try.
- Find new recipes. Something as simple as marinating in olive oil and herbs, or baking in a foil pouch with salmon may turn vegetables into something you love, even if you didn’t like them plain.
If you’re still having trouble getting in your vegetables, try sneaking them in. Chilis, soups, pasta sauces, and dips are great places to hide vegetables.
