Plateaus are periods during your weight loss journey when you’re still trying to lose weight, but you’re not losing weight. You may hit a plateau if you don’t lose weight for a few weeks.
Plateaus can be frustrating, but here are some strategies for getting over them.
- Be patient. Sometimes it just takes time.
- Be persistent. Keep up with your healthy choices, even if it feels like there’s no point to trying.
- Check portion sizes. It’s possible portions have increased slightly and are contributing to excess calorie consumption.
- Check your physical activity log to make sure you’re continuing to stay as active as you were when you were losing weight.
- Make a few small changes to reduce calories. Examples include trimming fat off meat, having less salad dressing, swapping water for caloric beverages like soda, and having vegetables instead of pasta or rice for side dishes.
- Sit down when you’re eating, and log meals, beverages, and snacks to stay aware of what you’re eating and drinking.
It may take some new changes to get over a plateau, but you can do it!
