How does Lark communicate with my mobile device?

Lark uses low-power Bluetooth® technology. In order to conserve power, the Bluetooth is only active when it needs to be: right before you go to sleep, and just minutes before you need to wake up. It is not actively communicating to the phone during the night. This is a powersaving design.  You wake it up when prompted.
